Hair Loss Management
It is perfectly typical to lose about 50-100 hairs per day from your scalp. However, if you see bald patches or visible scalp skin, you may be experiencing increased hair thinning or hair loss. Hair loss has many causes and is often multi-factorial in nature. Both men and women may experience hereditary loss that comes with time. Some women may notice hair loss after giving birth and some people after experiencing periods of stress, medical treatments, or new medical conditions.
Infection, nutritional status, hair care practices may also play a role. It is important to be seen to be evaluated for metabolic causes or a primary scarring conditions that may treated early. Scarring conditions are typically diagnosed with a biopsy of the scalp, while metabolic disorders are diagnosed with the patient history and blood work.
Treatment options depend on the diagnosis but may include oral and/ or topical Minoxidil, Finasteride, Dutasteride, Spironolactone, and growth factors. Procedures to retain and improve hair coverage in androgenetic alopecia may include Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections or hair transplantation.
